Grandma's concoctions: remedies that heal the soul and the flu
Throughout our lives, we have received countless pieces of advice, but few as wise, loving, and unforgettable as those from our grandparents. With their warm hands and home remedies, they taught us that for almost every ailment, especially the flu, there was always a solution in the kitchen, the garden, or the pantry. Today, I want to share the most valuable memories my grandmother left me. Secrets that have saved me more than once from those terrible flu bugs, using only simple ingredients that anyone can find.
Natural options for fighting the flu have been with us since our ancestors, and among them all, Grandma's famous concoctions are the most remembered and reliable. So, as she would say in her calm voice and with that all-knowing look: "My dear, if you've got the flu, listen closely to what I'm about to tell you..."
And that is where her list would begin, always with the confidence of someone who has seen a thousand colds cured. First, propolis with honey—a "miracle worker" for her. Propolis, that shield made by bees, fights viruses and bacteria, while honey soothes the throat, calms a cough, and provides an energy boost.
To boost defenses, pollen could never be left out: pure life in the form of tiny granules, loaded with vitamins that help the body get back on its feet faster. And for a healing snack, there was always cashew, sweet, delicious, and full of vitamin C, ideal for strengthening, cleansing, and nourishing while the flu clears out the way it came.
On cold afternoons, the recipe was clear: hot ginger and lemon tea, which warms the chest, clears the nose, and relieves congestion. Sometimes she would add a touch of turmeric, that golden powder with great anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power, perfect for reducing fever and cleansing the body.
If the nose remained stubborn, she would turn to eucalyptus vapors. "That unblocks the chest and nose like magic," she would assure. And you ended up believing her, because after following all these steps... the flu had no choice but to leave.
And if you can, have a hot cup of eucalyptus, ginger, or even lemon peel tea with these wonders. That will make you sweat, clear your chest, and sleep better. But mind you: no walking around barefoot, huh! Take it responsibly, once or twice a day, and you'll see how that flu starts to go away. And if you don't get better, you know: it's time to see a doctor.
